Today the weather was milder enabling us to get a lot done with just a few people. I spent the day in the lift removing powerlines, old speakers and light fixtures. On the ground John Kreckman positioned the lift at each new location which was sometimes pretty tricky. He managed to get it level each time. Mark Preston helped with the leveling, hitching the lift back up to the truck, and rolling up a ton of downed cable. Irene Fink was there helping to level the lift. She arrived with Christmas cookies and her camera to document the progress. Kaydon Vandyne and Miranda Goetz also stopped by and provided comic relief.
The facility is going to look so much cleaner with the majority of the power run under ground. As we have worked on removing different power runs we are seeing that some of this work was definitely due. The wiring in spots was so old it was cracked with bare spots showing and you could see where it had arced. This week Mike Lauterborn will be back to install a new power pole where the main power lines come in from the road to the facility. This was needed to be done as the old pole that is there is 40 years old and is rotted.
Next Saturday we could really use help dismantling the guardrail and sorting it into stacks based on the condition of the pieces. If you’d like to help with this please bring tools to dismantle or cut the bolts off while taking care not to damage the guardrail. 1-1/4 or larger sockets, impact guns, grinders and torches are some of what we need.
