Today Mother Nature won. A handful of us showed up to continue with what we had been working on yesterday, but it was too wet to get the equipment on the track or to continue painting. So we worked on the plumbing in the concession stand. Butch Coffey tidied up the garage a bit and helped me wire in the new hot water tank. Nick Fauci worked on cleaning up some of the materials that are currently scattered around the grounds. Friday night – Rob & Jessica VanDyne and I finished up the tire kicker fence. On Saturday Chip Ayres was there with his excavator and he dug a series of trenches for us to run the rest of the electric. Mark DeRue and Irene Fink helped me with the conduit; they also marked off the spots for the trackside parking. We had a crew of guys hanging fence all day and well into the night – Rob VanDyne, Shawn Freeland, Dennis Cummings, Don Resch, Jerry McAllister, Dave Farnan, and Jake Starr completed turn four and the back stretch. There is just a little to tie in, in turn two. We still have to hang the rest of the front stretch. The ladies worked on painting the block – Jessica VanDyne, Kaydon VanDyne, Kylie VanDyne and Makayla Smith did a great job! It looks much cleaner. Kaydon and Makayla joined the guardrail painting team of Mark DeRue, Ricky Francis and Irene Fink and began the tedious task of alternating between black and white panels. They completed turn four. It’s gonna look sharp when it is all done. Mark also helped me to wire the disconnect switch in the garage for pit lighting. Ricky tamped the ground along the panels making it much easier for the crew to paint. During all of this Jim Howard was working the track surface. Like he says - it’s gonna be fast. Thank you to Mark Potter and Mark Potter II for bringing us a delicious home cooked pasta lunch.
These names probably look quite familiar. They’ve been there all winter. Thank you to all of you for donating your time. We still have a lot to do and we are just 20 days out. We’ll be there on Saturday; some will be there during the week here and there. We need help. There is a lot to do and just not enough people to do it and do it correctly. We’ve been working hard to make the facility the premiere track in Western New York. We are close to accomplishing that. We will accomplish it, but it will happen a lot faster if we get more help.
